Blue Poecilia (Limia Caudofasciata)

The general body colour is olive, with dark markings along the sides, these offer an perfect background for the metallic blue spots flecking the surface of the body. The dorsal fin of the male is yellow-orange and has a dark spot at the base. Fins of the female are clear except for a slight yellow coloration at the base of the dorsal. The belly of the male is slightly golden. Both sexes have golden eyes.

This species is really a stunning aquarium fish. It is vividly coloured, and is shown to its greatest benefit by reflected light and with numerous them together in a single tank.

Males grow to about 1.5 inch long and females grow to 2.5 inch long. They’re peaceful and hardy, but when breeding they’ve a tendency to eat the fry, so use a breeding trap or lots of suitable plants.
