The blue catfish has a silvery brown body with a translucent overtone of blue. It is marked with a dark stripe from caudal fin to gill cover. The fins are generally clear and un-patterned, but occasionally the dorsal fin might have a dark tip. The eyes are golden. Aquarium specimens could be expected to attain a length of about 2.5 inches.
