These fish aren’t especially attractive, and their fairly big size is considered to be a disadvantage by some aquarists. Males grow to about 2.5 inch, and females to about three.75 inch The colour of the body is olive-brown which reflects a blue sheen. The sides of the male are usually marked with irregular, dark vertical bars, broken in locations, on the rear of the body, but these markings might well be absent entirely. Both sexes might have horizontal lines formed by dark dots. Both the dorsal and tail fins are tinted yellow. Only the male has dark markings on these fins.
It is a hardy, peaceful livebearer that breeds readily.
